Introduction
Sun City is a luxury resort and Casino situated on the Pilansberg Game Reserve’s borders in the North West Province of South Africa. It is also approximately 140km northwest of Jhb, and this luxurious resort is made up of several themed sun resorts with hotels on each one. The hotels are The Cabanas, Sun City Resort, The Cascades and The Lost City/The Palace.
Sun City was developed by the renowned hotel magnate Sol Kerzner as part of the Sun International group of properties in 1979 then located in what was known as Bophuthatswana. As Bophuthatswana was declared an independent state during the apartheid government, it allowed gambling and topless revue shows which were all banned in South Africa.

The Rise of Sun City
When this resort was established, the United Nations had imposed a cultural boycott on S.A. To overcome, this Kerzner offered considerable incentives to performing artists to use Sun City as a venue that paid off as several artists disregarded the boycott and performed at Sun City. Amongst those artists were The Beach Boys, Cher, Liza Minnelli, Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart and Elton John.
Sun City also has a vacation club sold as timeshare; two internationally recognised 18 hole golf courses both designed by Gary Player. The resort has also hosted numerous Miss South Africa pageants and the Miss World five times. Furthermore, the film Blended starring Drew Barrymore, and Adam Sandler premiered on the premises.
